Hassan Zubier

Turku Attack - 18.08.2017

Hassan Zubier was holidaying with his wife, mother-in-law, and young child, in Turku, Southwest Finland on the 18th August. Whilst walking through a park, Hassan witnessed a terrorist begin a spree of knife attacks on civilians. Using his skills as a paramedic, he began to deliver first aid as best as possible to those affected whilst protecting his family. Whilst delivering aid, Hassan attempted to fight off the attacker and in turn received several stab wounds, resulting in life changing injuries that left him paralysed. He was awarded with decorations by the Finnish and British governments for his efforts.

The terrorist was detained and arrested minutes after the attack, and became the first individual sentenced for a terrorist crime in Finland’s history. Two people were killed, and eight injured.
